Sesame Chicken

Equipment

  • 1 Fryer or Frying Pan

Ingredients

  • 1-1½ lbs boneless skinless chicken cubed I reccomend thighs
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • sesame seeds
  • oil for frying

Flour Batter

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 4 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil optional

Instructions

  • In a bowl add the chicken, eggs, and buttermilk. Mix until combined and set aside.
  • In another bowl add in the flour and all the seasonings. Mix fully.
  • In a medium saucepan on medium heat, add all the ingredients for the sauce. Stir until fully combined. Allow the sauce to simmer for 2-3 minutes then cut off the heat.
  • In small batches batter the chicken in the flour mixture ensuring it's fully coated.
  • In small batches ensuring the fryer isn't crowded, fry the chicken for 5 minutes or until crispy and brown. Drain with paper towels
  • On the last batch thats frying cut the heat back on on medium heat for the sauce and allow it to get hot.
  • Add all the crispy chicken to a bowl and pour the sauce over it. Toss until fully combined. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
